Vidwaan Sri. Neyveli R. Narayanan is an esteemed mridangam artist in the field of Carnatic music. He is renowned for his exceptional skills and contributions to the art of playing the mridangam, a traditional percussion instrument in South Indian classical music. Sri. Neyveli R. Narayanan's performances on the mridangam are marked by his precise and articulate playing, rhythmic creativity, and dynamic variations.
 
Hailing from a family of music connoisseurs at Sri. Neyveli, Narayanan was initiated into the art of Mridangam playing at the young age of seven, under the guidance of Sri S.K. Ganesa Pillai. He made his debut at the age of 11 and ever since, he has been rising in his art by furthering his horizons and making a mark in the field of Carnatic music. An intensive training under the Maestro Late Thanjavur Sri Upendran brought about a great amount of professionalism in Sri. N. Narayanan’s playing. His guru taught him the intricacies and specialties of the Tanjore Style of playing on the mridangam.
 
Sri. N. Narayanan is now blessed with the rare opportunity of being one of the favorite disciples of the Mridangam Legend Padmabushan Umayalpuram Sri K.Sivaraman. This great influence has brought in a great amount of clarity, precision and perfection in Sri. N. Narayanan Sir’s style.
 
He effortlessly navigates complex rhythmic patterns and intricacies, providing a solid foundation and enhancing the overall musical experience. His understanding of laya (rhythm) and his ability to adapt to different musical styles and compositions make him a versatile and highly respected artist. Apart from his skills as a performer, Guru Sri. Neyveli R. Narayanan is also known for his dedication to preserving and promoting the art of mridangam.

He has been actively involved in teaching, imparting his knowledge and expertise to aspiring students. He has conducted workshops, masterclasses, and lecture-demonstrations, sharing insights into the nuances of mridangam playing and helping shape the next generation of percussionists.
