Vidwaan Guru. Sri. Abhishek Iyer
A Guru instills discipline, dedication, and a deep understanding of the cultural and historical significance of any art form. The pupil’s respect, commitment, devotion, and obedience are defined by a code of conduct contained within the ancient tradition known as the Guru-Shishya Parampara, such has been Abhishek and Ekaansh's relationship.
Sri. Abhishek Iyer has played a pivotal role in the development of Ekaansh's mridangam skills. Further Abhishek has been instrumental in ensuring that his Guru Vidwaan Sri Neyveli R Narayanan Sir also imparted his knowledge, improvisational skills, and unique artistic expression in preparation for the Arangetram.
A significant portion of the teaching has been conducted online. Even with remote learning, Abhishek has instilled confidence and taught Ekaansh the intricacies and importance of music in life. His dedication, passion, and commitment to preserving and nurturing the lineage of this ancient percussion instrument will ensure its continued legacy for years to come.
Abhishek Iyer has been learning Indian classical music, be it vocal, instrumental or percussion, right from his childhood. He has been pursuing intensive training under renowned Guru Sri. Neyveli R. Narayanan and he completed his Arangetram on August 29th, 2015, where he had the privilege of accompanying Sri. Bharat Sundar, Sri. B.U. Ganesh Prasad and Sri. S.V. Ramani. In addition to learning mridangam, he has also received considerable training in tabla under the guidance of tabla/ghazal wizard Cassius Khan. Apart from percussion, Abhishek is also currently a student of the flute under the tutelage of Sri. Thiagarajan Ramani, son of late legend Dr. N. Ramani. He has since performed for many notable local and international artists in Canada, US and India.
